Today I did a little printing on a 16″ x 20″ glycerin plate. I am playing with threads and fibers. I rigged up a cool pin registration system and I am printing on Canson mixed media paper. It is not my usually style but fun to try something new. Now I am journaling on it with multi-colored pencils.

Do you have art habits or rituals that keep you going? Are they related to the art that you make?
I do morning pages as described by Julia Cameron in the Artists Way. I try to do them everyday. I generally don’t look at them again and often just toss them away after a few years.
Today I did my 3 hand written pages on top of some monotype prints. I think that I will layer over them, we will see.

I found an old typewriter at the local Salvation Army Store a few months back. It was $6.00 I think. I got a new ribbon for it and played with it for a day or two, but did not do much more.
Today I put an index card in the carriage and started typing off the top of my head. I was just creating a background of text for my gelatin print. I was putting myself, my thoughts out there with the idea of getting them out and covering them up with marks and ink.
One cool thing with a typewriter, is if I make mistakes there is no spell check, no correction. I just leave the mistake there and move on. I kind of like that idea. Does everything need to be perfect? Fixed? Maybe not.
I am feeling a bit nervous about the ICAD challenge ending. I am very pleased that I stuck to the daily commitment of producing and sharing an index card a day.

Typewriter to the task – mixed media Read More »
Another HOT day in New England. I think my laptop was over heating, so I headed to the Haverhill Public Library, where the AC is a free as the books. What a great place to be. I read through FISH a philosophy about catch the energy and release the potential. I first experienced this motivational training when I was working as a ski pro at Sugarloaf in Maine.
Do you see a theme? I have the time to work on my business plan. Creative Haverhill has monthly meetings for artists and we have chosen to focus on the business of art. This mixed media gelatin print is printed on a map and then collaged on to the index card for the ICAD challenge. I love working on papers that already have a story or history. I think that is can draw the viewers into the print and invite them to take a closer look.
