I did another 2.5 hour altered book today. I had an idea to cut out all the pages and leave a tab to glue a few back in. Well it did not work as I had hoped but I went with the flow and finished the bumpy seams with duct tape and oil pastels. It is just an example of the troubles the kids will run into and how to just keep moving and try something else.

This is my 3rd 2.5 hour book and I have to say that the process is really working for me in many ways. I am working and aware of how I might teach an element but also not thinking about it too much because I have to finish in 2.5 hours. I am going to make another one tomorrow. Well I have been planning for a kids class that will run in February @ LynnArts. I always over prepared – but I enjoy figuring out the best way to present ideas. Mixed media is the theme and I proposed altered books thinking that I would be teaching for 2 hrs a day for 4 days. But no. I am learning alot and having fun pumping out these books in 2.5 hours. I have to approach it intuitively and be all about the process. I want to include packing tape stickers, tissue paper drawings and writings, and some book terminology. I am limiting myself to the tools that the 6 to 12 year old kids can use. So no razor blades and power tools. Tonight I experienced the wonder of sand paper.
