Gelatin Plate Monotype Print
So May is slipping away.  I have been working on the farm too much and not much time in the studio having fun.  I have had a couple of great workshops at the studio and at Essex Art Center in Lawrence.  I am trying to finish up some prints for some local shows.  And I am missing my play time it all seems like work this month.  Hmmm?
I got an interesting call for enteries from A4 International Contemporary printmakers and another local call for artists to submit work to a new gallery in  Newburyport, MA.

Great Day in the Studio

Five artists who call themselves, Confetti, came to the studio today to play with gelatin prints. It always amazes me how much I can learn when I am suppose to be the teacher.  I love to let students learn by doing and they always think of new ways to create interesting images.  With gelatin printmaking the possiblities do seem endless. We tried Daniel Smith inks, speedball inks, golden open acrylics, drawing paper, tracing paper, maps and newsprint.  All in all, I think everyone had fun and created some interesting prints.  They all left wanting to come back for more.  Yippie!

Serious Printmaking!

Last week 4 artists gathered at my studio to make foam plate prints.  Sandra and I look very serious in this photo but that is misleading.  We had lots of fun We used wire mesh and spring steel to make printing plates. We printed on paper, wood and decorative papers to name a few.  The process is quick, easy and non-toxic. Laura Dandaneau took time out from printmaking to take a few pictures.  thanks Laura.  Check out her photo blog and prints for sale at Red Bubble.  Enjoy!

What can you do with security envelopes, bubble wrap and an elastic?

Make an artist book of course!  I really love the inside of security envelopes.  Check them out next time you are paying the bills.  There are so many patterns.  So I turned the envelopes inside out and folded them in half to make the pages.  I put text in the windows and tiny prints on the sides. I just love the little book.  Sometimes things just come together. I made an elastic and twig binding.  For instructions on this go to this site. Susan Kapuscinski Gaylord

has great instructions and videos.
