Prepping for a Portfolio Review

©linda germain some artist books

So I am gathering my thoughts and getting ready to talk about a couple of my artists books as part of the artist’s professional tool box.   I have been thinking about how to talk about my books for the last couple of days.  I was even practicing as I planted tiny little seedlings of peppers, and lettuce today at the farm.  I work best when I have deadline like this.  Why do I need to be under pressure to get things done.

Last thursday, the APT class was about alternatives to galleries.  We had a 6 member panel talk about their experiences from urban art, college galleries, Historical settings, art consultants, and art donations.  Suzanne Schultz of Canvas Fine Arts made an impression on me.  I loved her energy and attitude.  She spoke of the artist who changed her life Javier Osorio.   Click on his name and watch the video.  My APT group is putting together an exhibit – Risky Business – check out the details

Layers and Layers of Thermofax screen prints

©2012 linda germain screen printing on magazine page

So still playing with my new thermofax screens.   I have a stack of papers that I just keep layering with more textural images.  This one has 2 noticeable  screen designs and the wonderful watery marks come from “cleaning” the screen.  Linda Branch Dunn said, “you paid for the ink, so why throw it down the drain.”  So to print all the ink, she showed us how to spritz the inked side of the screen with water and print the ink here and there on our paper or fabric.  As I do it I think what an ugly mess, but then I come back in a day or two and find the ink has dried in an interesting way.   Happy Printing!
