Printmaking Inspiration at the Gym

I was recently inspired by the tv at the gym.  I was walking on the tread mill and watching the tv without audio.  I forgot my earbuds.  I realized that I could learn a lot about composition, division of space, camera angles and the like for this soundless video.

This is just another example of how learning, inspiration and often the answers are right there if we can open our eyes, be still and let it in.  Hmmm?

This idea of seeing and making art was confirmed yesterday when I went to listen to Barbara Moody talk about finding the artist’s voice.  Early in her presentation she noted how we, artists can walk down the same street and see very different inspirations, from shape, texture, line, color and subject matter.

What is your inspiration? What do you see?

Gelatin jigglers anyone?

Just teasing you.  I would not be eating my gelatin squares.  But it  is fun to cut the big slab of gelatin up at the end of a workshop and put it in the freezer for the next class. A couple of tips for freezing the gelatin for reuse later.

  1. Cut it into manageable squares – easier to thaw later
  2. Use a container that you can put in the microwave
  3. Freeze just one gelatin plate in each container.
One time I put the cut up squares of a a few slabs of gelatin into one big container and then I had trouble trying to thaw out the big frozen chunk of gelatin.
I have a couple of workshops planned for the next month or so.  Check the date and sign up for a gelatin printmaking workshop.
Happy printing!

Do you wait to the last minute?

Post by Linda Germain

I think I do.  Why?   What stops me from committing earlier?

As a teacher of gelatin printmaking and mixed media workshops  it is sometimes a challenge to wait to the last minute to know the number of folks in a class.  I love to plan the space and make the gelatin plates .

Here is a last minute class that might be interesting to you by a friend of mine Diane Gilleland,  Monetize Your Craft Blog.  It starts on Monday,  so this would be a last minute decision.  If that is your style.  I recently took an online class with Diane and learned so much more than I could have anticipated.  She knows her stuff!  She used video, chats, pdfs, and personal emails to help me make a plan and get going on my ebook about gelatin printmaking.

My book is not ready yet, but soon I will share bits and pieces.
Happy Printing!
