Collage a few gelatin print shapes

Collage a few gelatin print shapes - Linda Germain PrintmakingToday I used some demo prints to cut shapes to make my gelatin print for the ICAD.  It took longer than I thought it would.  I used

  • glue sticks
  • scissors
  • and a few practice prints
  • charcoal for scribbles and
  • a stamp set for words

I was thinking about

  • organic shapes
  • balance
  • repetition but variety
  • Value changes and
  • bright and dull

In this gelatin print…..

I had to remember to play and to let go of the idea of perfection.   Hmmm seems like I have to remind myself of that one a lot.

Gelatin Print awareness…..

I have committed to one gelatin print for 61 days with Tammy and the crew at Daisy Yellow.  I have become aware of some ways of being during this process:

  • anything goes
  • let go of expectations
  • follow my gut
  • leave clean up for tomorrow
  • be open to surprise
  • be willing to make mistakes
  • print on both sides of the paper
  • lift off and stamp on ink
  • being in the studio feels good

Happy Gelatin printing……..

Time Flies – what is important?

mixed media gelatin print by linda germainHere I am at the end of the day and my gelatin print on an index card is not done yet.

Oh dear……….

What does that say about my priorities?  What does that mean – if anything?  Hmmm.  Now I am not passing judgement.  I am just bringing some awareness to the situation.  This is what i am sensing-

  • work on the farm is taking up time and energy
  • I meet my work commitments on the farm
  • I don’t have art supplies to gelatin print at home
  • It would be easy to print if a brought a few supplies home
  • This 61 day commitment to ICAD is important to me
  • I have not made it easy for me to do a gelatin print a day

What will I gelatin print today!?

I will have to go to the studio and see what jumps out at me.

I managed to find this print and collage it on to the index card and collage the dictionary page border.

Yippie another day done.

Gelli Plate to the Rescue – ICAD

Gelatin print on a Gelli PlateToday’s print was a challenge to get done.  I was hoping that I had some tools to work with at home but I had to go to the studio to get this gelatin print done.   I have a few folks to credit for encouragement :

  • Gelli art folks for creating the gelli plate that lasts forever and is always ready for printing
  • Jo over at JoGatheringWild who got her ICAD done today
  • My buddy Sandra who shared her ICAD on her blog too.

I got the gelli plate out yesterday to share with my students in the Play for the Day – Gelatin Printmaking Workshop  I like to give them the opportunity to try out the gelli plate and the gelatin plate.

Happy Printing!

a Perfect Day of Gelatin Printing…

We all left with a new interest in exploring the  gelatin monotype print.
