Foam Plate Prints Today

Post by Linda Germain

Today I played with a method I like to call foam plate reduction printmaking. I make more new marks in between states/colors. I had varying results. I think that it will be a great warm up and discovery project for my printmaking class next week at college for kids, NECC, Haverhill. I started out with the goal of experimenting with different mark making tools to create different textures, lines and shape.

What to do with old moldy Gelatin – Print of course!

Today I matted a couple of pieces and dropped them off for review at the Newburyport Art Association Gift Shop – a new endeavor for me. I am not sure how old this piece of gelatin is but it is on it’s last days. I pick up the extra moisture with lots of sheets of newsprint and just print. The holes and lines and imperfections make the gelatin fun to work with. I have to experiment with usin line, shape and not much other texture to get a pleasing print.

Making Cards from Gelatin Prints and More

Today I am dropping of a print for the Alter-A-tions Show in Salem, Mass. I am also getting some work ready to put in the gift shop at the Newburyport Art Association. I worked on making some small note cards and I have a stack of prints to mat. I was a process to figure out just how to easily make the note cards but I am pleased with how they are coming along.

Mixed Media Gelatin Plate Monotype

Today I framed up a piece for the Alter-A-tions show at the Experimental Art Gallery in Salem, MA. I am pleased to be showing at a new venue in a new town. Then I went to Charrettes in Woburn. They are closing the retail store so I got some good deals on some supplies. I played with making some cards and I made this print above. It is a gelatin plate print that I sewed on to another sheet of paper and the sewed other types of paper on and used the sewing machine to “draw” the loopy lines. I have some prints with this sewn collage technique on my website .
