Serious Printmaking!

Last week 4 artists gathered at my studio to make foam plate prints.  Sandra and I look very serious in this photo but that is misleading.  We had lots of fun We used wire mesh and spring steel to make printing plates. We printed on paper, wood and decorative papers to name a few.  The process is quick, easy and non-toxic. Laura Dandaneau took time out from printmaking to take a few pictures.  thanks Laura.  Check out her photo blog and prints for sale at Red Bubble.  Enjoy!

What can you do with security envelopes, bubble wrap and an elastic?

Make an artist book of course!  I really love the inside of security envelopes.  Check them out next time you are paying the bills.  There are so many patterns.  So I turned the envelopes inside out and folded them in half to make the pages.  I put text in the windows and tiny prints on the sides. I just love the little book.  Sometimes things just come together. I made an elastic and twig binding.  For instructions on this go to this site. Susan Kapuscinski Gaylord

has great instructions and videos.

Why are Libraries are so Great?

FREE BOOKS that is why libraries are so great!!! I got these two books today at the local library and I can’t wait to tear into them.  REthinking Acrylics, by Brady and Eco Books by Terry Taylor.  I have to admit I like to look at pictures and get ideas.  Sometimes I will read the words too.   Seth Apter is doing a book club, as part of the altered page, pulse project.  check there for inspiring books.  He shares new favorite books each sunday. Enjoy!

Tax day approaches!

I have been busy and finally got my taxes done.  I did a gelatin printmaking demonstration at the Georgetown Library and it was well attended.  We had fun and could have just kept printing all afternoon.  We are very busy planting annuals on the farm.  The pollen has taken over my sinuses and driven me to taking allergy medicine. I have been selecting  artwork for a small group show in Marblehead, MA.  So no new work this week.  OH  I went to a great talk by Jackie Battenfield, about the business of art.
