I am overwhelmed by all the possibilities in my life, day and art. Sometimes I just have to stop and simplify.
Here in New England the plants are dying and shriveling up for the winter. Today I stopped in the garden and pulled up a couple of seed pods and did a couple of quick sketches on Index cards. I love index cards ever since the Index Card a day challenge with Tammy Garcia from Daisy Yellow. They are the perfect size for turning into small thermofax screens. Then your drawing can be printed here and there and everywhere.
Do you see beauty in decay? Do you use it in your work?
Linda
Yes!
I frequently paint from dead or dying flowers, dried up leaves. Love the shapes they make.
I really like these line drawings, Linda. Simple, yes, but very expressive!
I like simple line. Thanks Debbie
I love the winter “skeletons”. I taught a course on flower arranging that focused on these. wilding sand weeds especially. must try the thermofax screens.
hmmm winter skeletons very cool description. Yes you must try the thermofax screens. I think I will do one of these drawings today. You inspired me.
Love all your artwork and your perspective, Linda. I’m in Tucson AZ — the land of endless autumn. Golden slanting sun on stuccoed walls… the slow drying process after summer monsoons… the cool night air and smell of woodsmoke… this extends from Sept to well into the next year. It is the most profound and nostalgic time and I too appreciate all the changes in plant life.
hmmm sounds nice! enjoy!
Lovely line drawings! Remember the huge line drawings in the exhibit at the Met over a year ago? One of the drawings was a 7 or 8 feet tall bean stalk. You did a monoprint of a woman’s face with the same sort of line drawing. It was fabulous! Color added deepened emotion to the sad face. Can’t wait to see what you will do next.
Yes Ellsworth Kelly. Love his line drawings. Great to hear from you.
