Today, I am playing with a few simple stencils that I cut from a Tyvek® envelop. The envelop had a little texture that I think adds to the impression in the ink. I am also experimenting with limiting the colors and stencils. Boundaries can help the discovery process.
One wonderful thing about Tyvek® stencils for gelatin printmaking is that they are durable and long lasting. When I take all the time to cut stencils, then I want them to last for ever. Cutting stencils is not the fun part for me. If you would like some of my stencil cutting tips then check out this post.
See another style of stencils with Tyvek® in this post.

Happy Printing!

Hi, Linda! I found yolur blog through another blog. I think it may have been from Donna Downey’s Simply Me blog. Anyway I know that is the where I just learned about the Gelli Plate and then found out you could make your own with gelatin. Your class sounds so fun. Wish I lived nearby. I do hope to try to make my own and make some fun prints with it. Have fun with your class.
welcome! glad you found your way here. Let me know how you printing goes. You can always share with the flickr group too. http://www.flickr.com/groups/gelatinprintmaking/
Nice print!
I hope to get back to gelli prints during the Winter Doldrums!
Large Purina dog and cat chow bags are also great for stencils. They have smooth and woven sides.
oh yeah, i forgot about those bags. Great idea. hope some happy printing helps you through the winter. 🙂
Hello Linda,
I discovered your blog by TUBE YOU in search of videos on Gelli. Your creations are magnificent.
Just a question; it is what the tyvek?
I do not well speak English (and I pass by the translator to write you:) can you explain to me? I thank you for it.
I like very much your work and your ideas. I begin in Gelli and it is really fantastic.
See you soon.
Very friendly,
Florence,
This link should explain Tyvek better than I can. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tyvek Some mailing envelopes are made of tyvek. HOpe this helps. Happy printing.
Love the limited palette in this print! Very seasonal.
Hi LInda,
I just did a series of prints just using newsprint as a stencils. I can see that using Tyvek would work even better. I’ll post some on the flicker group.
I look forward to seeing those prints!
Great print! I love using Tyvek for stencils and masks, it doesn’t tear when wet like paper, which is a huge pre as the agar-agar plates that I use stay very moist.
love your layers, as usual. I have yet to figure out how to be so deliberate in my layering – you’re an inspiration!
Oops! Looks like you covered tyvek!
