I did some gelatin printing in my studio today. I decided to create a series of prints from the masking stencil that I created from a picture of my brother fishing off the pier in Rye Harbor.
I did a couple of different techniques that helped to produce a strong series of gelatin prints.
- I cut my bristol board to size first while I still had clean hands
- I put a piece of removable tape on the edges of the bristol board so I would have a place to hold the gelatin print with my dirty fingers
- I printed several practice pieces
- I experimented with different mark making tools
- I removed the tape right away so it would not become permanently stuck to the gelatin print.
I made about 16 gelatin prints with the intention of creating 10 finished prints. That was a new approach for me too – to have a product goal. I ended up with 9 finished prints – close to goal.
Would you like to come to my studio and make a series of gelatin prints? If so then, check out the workshop schedule. Hopefully there will be a date that works for you.
If you are new to gelatin printing watch a few of my videos and check out the flickr page to see what other folks are doing with their gelatin prints.
Happy printing!
