Gratitude! I am so lucky to have lots of studio space so I can spread out a series of gelatin plate monotype prints and respond to each print individually. This group is printed on 90 lb drawing paper and I used golden acrylic paint with open medium added. Then I worked into a few with charcoal and direct brayer marks. Happy printing.
How do you like the Open acrylics? I didn’t want to spend yet more on paints, so I ended up getting a tube of retarder to add to my regular acrylics to help lengthen the drying time. I haven’t tried it yet, but hope it helps :).

I like that the paint is fixed when it is dry. i too mixed open medium with regular golden acrylics. I am still partial to inks. I like the way they transfer. But I have more playing to do.
Hi Linda! Great blog! I have been expermimenting with the Gelli Arts plates and masks made with paper coated with matt medium as you suggest here. I have been using Chrona Interactive acrylics (also slow drying like Golden Open) and I am getting a very weak ghost (basically the ink is going into my mask). What am I doing wrong? Does the matte medium on the masks doesnt repel the acrylic paint I am using? Would it work better with inks?

Hi Michelle, Have you seen my video about pre-inking the stencil to get a stronger ghost/detail impression? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xI7hUAo9xpk&feature=plcp. That is one way to get more ink to transfer. Depending on the weather
1.the speedball water soluble block printing ink will release from the stencil,
2.the Daniel Smith water soluble block printing ink
and the
3. Akua Kolor inks work too.
It is always an experiment. The heat, cold and humidity are always a factor. Some inks work better than others when it is cold or hot.

Love your blog, Linda, and thanks for visiting mine! I recently had my first session playing with the Gelli Arts gel plate and found my acrylics dried very fast also, with barely any ghost prints. Might try either acrylic retarder or some Open Acrylics in the future but it’s always fun to experiment!
