Gelatin printing insights

several pieces of gelatin placed together to make bigger prints

So I took Cathy McLaurin’s working big class for the second year in a row.  In preparation for the class I put several pieces of gelatin together and started making bigger prints.  Scale changes everything.  But I came up with some new insights during the process.

  1. the refrigerator can only hold a certain size.
  2. use thing strips of wood to hold all the gelatin pieces together
  3. slippery non-absorbent paper can give very interesting results
  4. charcoal can be picked and transferred on the gelatin plate.
  5. same pieces in a series can be pieced together to create large work.
But it is the first sunny day in  a week and I have to go to the beach.  Enjoy!

  1. Very interesting insights, Linda!
    Thanks for the link.
Hope you enjoyed the beach and that you’ll have many more beach days to come.

  2. Thanks for the commentary, Linda. I have also been trying to work larger (on a single piece of gelatin) and, as mentioned, storage is an issue. I cobbled together a 14″ square form from pieces of a tub surround and plexiglas and silicone caulk. Then I cobbled together a ‘cooler’ which is just an insulated box in which I put a couple freezer bricks. Well, it works okay. May get a dorm fridge to store it in. Moving that big floppy thing is tricky. http://www.markevansart.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/P10500501.jpeg
