I have had this piece of gelatin around since the beginning of December. The wrinkles and holes appear as it ages. The more I use it the more interesting the surface becomes. I did cut in some random lines to see what that would do.

abstract landscape – gelatin plate monotype print
If you try using your old slimy gelatin, be sure to do lots of newsprint pick ups to absorb some of the moisture and slime before you start printing. This is my motto for gelatin printmaking – “Fearless experimentation can lead to extraordinary results.” Enjoy!
Linda, where do you store your “maturing” plates? I don’t have a spare fridge anymore and it freezes in the garage. If you wrap it and leave it in the studio doesn’t it just get fuzzy?
Gorgeous! I like the idea of reusing everything and letting things age. Can the mature plates be liquified again?
Hi Ladies – I do leave my gelatin in a refrigerator. I don’t think it will do very well just in the studio. You can microwave the gelatin and let it harden again, but when it gets really moldy I wonder about the “fume”, bacteria or what every it is. Happy printing!
A wonderful piece, I like your fearless experimental attitude. -sus
Thanks susan, Let’s be fearless!
A wonderful print–and thanks for the encouragement your site gives me.
Now this is something you can’t do with those Gelli Plates.
Love your new posts, especially the landscape. All the best in the new year.
