I have been playing with square styrofoam plate prints this week. I was inspired by another artist Bonnie Mineo A couple of my friends took a workshop with her at Fort Point Studios.
They had a great time and enjoyed the technique. I have not had a chance to see their work, so I have been guess at how she layers the plates. I made about 20 plates with simple marks and then used speedball inks and just started layering.
Last night I found that I liked how a light color over a darker color looked. I am having so much fun that I can’t stop. I am just using styrofoam meat trays and cutting them into 4″ squares. I am using pastel colors and colors that I would not usually use.
Try! You’ll like it! Enjoy!
Hi Linda.
Love your newest prints. The colours are great and the layering is brilliant! I’m going to start keeping my meat trays and have a go at the technique! Please keep inspiring me!

will do!
Recycling and creating great pieces, what more could your want? I love the results. Thank you for sharing.
It is always a bonus when I can recycle something Thanks
Linda,
I love the idea of using foam plates but am not sure what you mean by Speedball inks. Are you talking screenprinting inks? I have lots of etching and relief oil based inks but I think they’d be too heavy for this process.Hope you don’t mind me asking? Lesley
I am using speedball water based block printing inks. Speedball is just a brand name. I think you are right the oil based inks might be too heavy. Any water based block printing ink would be good to use. Hope this helps.
Thanks Linda, that helps. I remembered I have some water based inks for lino blocks so I’ll have a go with those.Lesley
i would like to learn more about this.
