Gelatin Prints on Fabric

I got a Quilting Arts Magazine from the Library and was attracted to the brightl;y colored design on the front.  It was a Gelatin Print on fabric that had been richly quilted and awarded great prizes. I have tried to print on fabric with my inks and some screen printing fabric ink but I have not ended up with such wonderful colors. Today I tried again with my inks and some moldy gelatin and the results were ok.  I experiemented with dampening the fabric.  Oh the fabric was just an old sheet. I tried using acryic paint too.  I think I will look for some proper fabric inks or dyes.

I came across an interesting artist’s residency – Philiadelphia Art Hotel  Resident artists will receive a private live / work studio with an adjoining bathroom during their stay at PAH. In addition, we have a fully functioning kitchenette & lounge that is shared among artists. The Philadelphia Art Hotel occupies a rowhouse in the urban neighborhood of East Kensington, very close to Center City Philadelphia as well as many wonderful local spots. Public transportation is within a couple blocks of PAH (subway and bus lines) while many amenities are within walking distance.  It does not cost anything to stay there is an application fee  and some other deatils. Check it out if you are interested.  I was think about creating an in-house residency for myself for the next couple of months. What is a residency but time and space to complete a project?  I am sure it is more too, support from other artists, exhibit opportunities, a great line for your resume, time away from home, a new place to be. I was thinking that I have time and space – I just need a plan/project and a commitment. I might try a two/three day project first.  I am just thinking this out. Enjoy!  http://www.linda-germain.com/

  1. I love this idea. I hope you get suggestions from others who’ve succeeded at this. I’m retired and find that when I’m alone for a few days I get overwhelmed by the possibilities of doing whatever I want without inconveniencing anyone else and end up not accomplishing very much.

  2. Hi Peggy, I am finding the in house residency is harder than I initially thought. It is easy to be distracted by MY STUFF. Hmm? I am going to break things down into steps. Step ONe to prepare and Pack for the project. This may take a week.
